About Derek

Hello, my name is Derek Day. I am the Director of Research for The Babb Group and, as such, I am responsible for conducting research and support. I pride myself on gathering accurate and innovative data that helps everyone on the team. I gather data through primary research, as well as writing on numerous and various topics. I also work closely with the people we serve answering questions and providing information to help them reach their goals; I take great pride in being a partner for their success.
In addition to my work here, I am also a faculty member of an online university, teaching undergraduate courses in business, marketing and management. Education is my passion and a pillar of freedom in my life. I love everything about teaching. As an online facilitator and professor I hope to help my students have similar experiences, finding their own enlightenment and sense of freedom through online education. My goal is to expand my teaching opportunities in this area as a part of my commitment to maintain a lifelong relationship with distance education.
Beyond my work with The Babb Group and as an instructor, I focus on my education, with the ultimate goal of becoming successful in my role as a distance educator. Education is one of my most significant passions. I recently completed my MBA after obtaining four undergraduate degrees: Bachelor degrees in Business Administration and Marketing, and Associate degrees in Web Development and Computer Networking. Currently, I am working toward a Ph.D. in Managerial Science with an emphasis in Leadership and Organizational Change, and my plan is to obtain this degree in 2010.
My main research interest is disability employment. I feel that I am in a unique position to make a difference in this field because my education enables me to understand the needs of businesses, while my background helps me to understand the needs of the disabled. I am confined to a wheelchair as a result of cerebral palsy. Specifically, my desire is to determine ways in which to increase employability for those with disabilities. To that end, I hope to introduce businesses to the issue and develop positive solutions for the employment of the disabled; I hope to create a successful marriage between the two. I also have secondary research interests in the economic impacts of green energy initiatives and online education that I want to explore in depth, once I obtain my Ph.D.
My educational goals and professional efforts do not allow much time for hobbies, but I also enjoy volunteering with my local chapter of SCORE as a business consoler to entrepreneurs in the area and am also involved in other philanthropic activities as well. To relax I can be found watching various sports, such as basketball, football and baseball. I think of sports as a microcosm of life and they can teach us many valuable lessons. I also like technology, and am generally thrilled by gadgetry. All types of music fascinate me, although I have no discernible talent in this area. I like everything from jazz and the blues, to hip-hop and rock; I even like some country - in controlled amounts. If you have any questions please feel free to Contact Me.

Music Teacher Hi Derek! As you are researching, can you please locate a Music on-line teaching job? I've been a successful Music teacher for 20 years in public schools. I have also taught Technology part-time this past school year to K-8. I have my Masters degree in Music Education with 15 graduate hours above my Masters. I have a lifetime Music Ed teaching certificate from Missouri. Thank you so much for your help!! Sincerely, Ellyn Wilson blush770@yahoo.com |

Kudos In a wheelchair or not, what you have accomplished on a educational level is truly inspirational to me. It seems you don't look at diversity as a obstacle but as mere physical dare to your actual abilities that you could challenge anyone on. I can affirm that you are a wonderful friend and teacher and know that you have will touch many lives as you have mine as you continue to accomplish your goals. |
